Clean Water Business Partners Program

Business Environmental Resource Center

The City of Sacramento, Sacramento County and the cities of Citrus Heights, Galt, Elk Grove, Folsom and Rancho Cordova have joined with local residents and participating businesses in a new program designed to keep harmful residential, commercial and industrial wastewater from being discharged into Sacramento waterways through storm drains.

The Clean Water Business Partner Program kicked off in January 1998. Every day, participating businesses are helping to educate their customers about how to prevent stormwater pollution while also demonstrating proper wastewater disposal practices. "It's an excellent program", stated Colby Rodriguez of California Carpet Cleaners. "The program is a great way to benefit California waterways."

The City provides participating businesses with simple tools and information to encourage their employees and customers to be more conscious about keeping storm drains free of pollutants. In addition, participating businesses are included in the program's advertising campaign.

The Clean Water Business Partner Program does not impose additional regulations on participating businesses. It provides assistance and incentives to local businesses who follow proper procedures for disposal of wastewater, while promoting clean water awareness.
